Best apprentices shine at college awards

Jul 30 2008

Four BEST apprentices have received top accolades at this year’s Newham College Awards for building services engineering (BSE), in recognition of their achievements and commitment throughout their apprenticeship programmes.

Martin Collins, employed by Kylemore Services, scooped the award for Outstanding Performance in the Heating & Ventilating – Industrial/Commercial category, and was heralded as ‘the perfect apprentice’ by his training advisor, Cathy Laine, as a result of his hard work and positive attitude.

Commenting on his win, Martin said: “I’m delighted to receive this award. I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of my apprenticeship and look forward to embarking on my fourth year. I was first introduced to BEST through my employer, Kylemore Services, and have felt fully supported throughout course. As a training provider, BEST has worked closely with my employer to ensure my training matches their needs exactly.”

Dr Mark Brenner, ceo at BEST, attended the ceremony to congratulate the apprentices: “I am delighted to congratulate our winners at these prestigious awards, who are all testament to the way in which BEST works closely and effectively with colleges, and employers.

“Martin, as someone who has shown outstanding performance as an apprentice, is a particular success story we are keen to promote, having made the transition to the industrial and commercial H&V programme with ease. He has excelled through all of his exams and college units, and his work has been of the highest standard, gaining recognition during BEST’s recent Ofsted inspection where his work was described as ‘a brilliant example of what is required’. I’m certain that a rewarding career lies ahead of him.”

Other BEST success stories at the awards include:

  • Kevin Pilgrim – Apprentice of the Year in the Heating & Ventilating category

  • Renado Edwards – Outstanding Achievement in the Heating & Ventilating category

  • Glen Hudson – Outstanding Achievement for Electrical Installation

BEST’s programme at Newham College of Further Education, has continued to grow from strength to strength, as a result of its excellent relationship with the college, its tutors, qualification board and parents.
